Four individuals arrested at a residence in Benoni, where a fully operational methcathinone (CAT) lab was uncovered, were swiftly convicted and sentenced the following day. Maj-Gen Ebrahim Kadwa, the head of the Hawks in Gauteng, applauded the Benoni magistrate's court for imposing six years' imprisonment on each offender for drug dealing.

The arrests took place after members of the Hawks' serious organized crime investigation and West Rand K9 unit executed a warrant at a house in Lakefield, Benoni. The search revealed a functioning CAT laboratory, along with various chemicals and equipment used in its production. Law enforcement discovered 5kg of CAT concealed inside the house, with an additional 12kg located in one of the suspects' vehicles.

The rapid conviction and sentencing highlight the commitment of authorities to combat drug-related activities and the efficient collaboration between law enforcement units.
