A 29-year-old man from North
West, accused of murdering his girlfriend on Christmas Day, appeared in the
Madikwe Magistrate's Court on Thursday to face a murder charge. Lucky Thabiso
Akompe is alleged to have fatally slit the throat of Lerato Francina Kuate in
the early hours of Monday at Goedehoop Village near Madikwe, as reported by
North West police spokesperson Capt Sam Tselanyane.
Police were summoned to the scene
when Kuate's lifeless body was discovered in a shack belonging to one of
Akompe's relatives. A subsequent search at Akompe's residence revealed
blood-stained clothing that the suspect had purportedly worn the day before,
concealed under a bed.
Akompe voluntarily surrendered to
the police and was taken into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled
for Thursday. He has been remanded in custody to allow him time to consult with
a legal representative before his forthcoming court date.
