Eastern Cape police provided additional details regarding
the car crash that resulted in the tragic death of the accomplished musician,
composer, choreographer, and playwright Mbongeni Ngema.
The 68-year-old artist passed away on Wednesday, prompting a
culpable homicide investigation by the police. The incident occurred at
approximately 4:30 pm in the Mbizana area.
According to Lt-Col Siphokazi Mawisa, the police responded
to the accident scene on the R61 road between Mbizana and Magusheni. Upon
arrival, they discovered three individuals, including the driver, in a critical
condition. The preliminary information suggests that a white Renault sedan,
traveling from Lusikisiki to Durban, was involved in a collision with a truck.
Mawisa stated, "The three people were rushed to the
hospital for treatment. The deceased [Ngema], who was one of the passengers,
succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, and the other two, including the
driver, are still receiving medical attention."
As of now, the exact cause of the crash remains unclear, and
the investigation is ongoing.
