On Sunday night, a severe storm wreaked havoc in the Ladysmith area, causing a flash flood in the Bell's Spruit and Kliprivier, as reported by IPSS medical emergency services. The local SPCA and Caravan Park were among the areas submerged, with numerous vehicles reportedly swept away.

The heroic efforts of Ladysmith SAPS K9 Search and Rescue member, K9 Warrant Officer Meyer, and his canine companion, Storm, assisted by volunteer JP Strydom, marked Christmas day with tireless dedication. Their endeavors resulted in the recovery of six bodies, a testament to their commitment amidst the challenging conditions.

Despite the suspected 11 individuals still missing, the search was temporarily halted due to the exhaustion of the lone Search and Rescue team. The anticipation for additional resources has become paramount for the continuation of the mission.

IPSS Search and Rescue swiftly responded by deploying a four-man team and two vehicle teams to collaborate with the SAPS K9 Search and Rescue. Further reinforcements are on standby, ready to assist as needed. The Al-Imdaad Foundation, a partner of IPSS, has also mobilized to provide aid to those affected by the devastating floods.

The animals from the SPCA were successfully rescued during the night of the incident. The identification of the deceased remains pending, and the search is expected to resume once the teams regroup, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to resolving this tragic situation.
